The days of Trailer Space:
Wow, my life got so big, and I had pretty much forgotten this existed. If anyone out there is/was listening, apologies. So maybe this will start back up again for me. The facebook is really where I do a lot of posting and thinking, but this really does have a more even-keel of readership possibilies. So here I am, posting after four years. We shall see where this goes…
My inclination to avoid blog posts is obvious this tour. A few words to describe the past month…rain, technical difficulties, rednecks, cohesion, headlights, cute kittens, bad bacon, great conversation. More later when I am settled?
So the idea is this: all of you readers/listeners/fans, from the four corners of the world, submit 50 items for us to look for while we tour around with the cats. As we wander around Atlanta, Asheville, Raleigh, Roanoke, and beyond, from 3/22-5/??? we will do our best to find said objects, photo or video them, and post them to this blogsite here. You can submit your ideas through here or use the Facebook event, located here: http://www.facebook.com/events/517025431674090
First item to be entered is:
1. A Ceramic animal with its butt up in the air. (Thanks Edmo!) Like this photo:
The Acro-cats Spring Tour starts in Atlanta, GA on 3/22.
3/22-3/24: Paul Robeson Theatre, Atlanta GA
3/27-4/7: BeBe Theatre, Asheville NC
4/15-4/16: KIngs Barcade, Raleigh NC
4/18-4/21: Charter Hall, Roanoke VA
4/25-4/26: Cultural Arts Center, Glen Allen, PA
More dates to be announced soon!
(Thank you Eyedrum friends for the great video.)
So, we here at Sporkbooking decided to bring back the Weee Fest for a couple days. Why? We know that there is so much good music in Austin, and we feel like we need to help completely over-saturate this city and represent the underrepresented once in awhile. So Weee Fest is here to say: “Hey, over here! Here are some unknown performances ready to rock your world and expand your mind!” Or something like that. Last year, about this same time, we did these monthly shows at Skinny’s Bar (RIP) This year, Frontier Bar (2421 Webberville Road) is where we are hosting the resurgence of said shows, for who-knows-how long. All we know is that, this time around, there’s TWO DAYS and ELEVEN BANDS on the lineup:
MONDAY FEB 18TH
Medosevo 8PM – Doing a special spoken word set. What will they talk about?
Single Lash 9PM – Post punk/no wave? local Act. Maybe they will dress up like a chicken. http://singlelash.bandcamp.com/
Ouiness 10PM – Improv on-the-spot insta band, just add theme. You KNOW they will dress up like a chicken. http://youtu.be/k3HaYp5eS1A
Magic Helmet 11PM – Bluesy rock duo with an actual magic helmet!
Destroyed For Comfort 12midnight – All we can say is this is the greatest thing you are supposed to hate around. https://soundcloud.com/destroyedforcomfort
ABGAL 1AM – New on the Austin scene, from their mad scientist lab in the sky, Abgal might take you on a vitural reality tour of their home planet, if you are lucky. http://petroglyphmusic.bandcamp.com/album/unctioned-ziggurat-pherkad
TUESDAY FEB 19TH
PAN PAN PAN 8 PM – Speaking of chickens, I think he stole my suit…https://soundcloud.com/nealretke/pan-pan-pan
Petkus Ono Band 9 PM – On the classier? side of improv – one of the only bands I personally know in Austin with a condcutor. http://christopherpetkus.com/index2.htm
Cabrini Green 10 PM – Whoever gave him his trophy might consider taking it back. Always able to get a crowd rioting…I mean started.
Pilgrimess 11 PM – There isn’t anything we can say about Pilgrimess that isn’t true. Beautiful, Smart, and she paid us to say all this.
Null Hypothesis 12Midnight – The collaborative efforts of a Bradford Kinney and Mickey Delp, the electronic eyes and ears of a nation wait eagerly in anticipation of what they come up with. Or at least a room of Austinites. http://ghostofelectricity.bandcamp.com/ http://mickeydelp.com/
One of our most favoritest parts of this show is the diversity of the weirdness that can span Austin’s definitions. From experimental, electronic, rock n roll, hip hop, and more, all can push the envelope enough to be “Weeeird enough” for this show.
Weee Fest is free, but the bands have merch so bring cash., and they are all broke so you can just like, give them money and stuff. Comecelebrate our return, or else Aliens might come down and steal what brains you have left.
Let us know what you like by sending is a message or email. Questions? Comments? Opinions? Now is the time to air all that out. Thanks for reading…
Added some new links to the side bar over there, added some work to our roster. Everything seems to be going as the (fill in the blank of your favorite deity or science) Universe has it planned. Or not planned. Not much to say, except I mean to write more in this on a regular basis. SXSW is coming up(March!), Acro-cats tour is coming up(April!), and the warmth that Texas starts to feel every time about this year is upon us. I think I am going to go out and work in the garden. But first, this – one of my favorite movies: One of the best movies ever made! Holy Mountain, by Alejandro Jodorowsky. Enjoy.
